Physical Education Intent Statement

Intent

Physical Education at Rowhill School aims to develop an engaging, high targeted and tailored curriculum that will inspire all students to succeed and excel. The curriculum and enrichment offer positive and motivating environment enabling pupils to become physically literate, supporting their physical and mental health and wellbeing, providing the foundations for lifelong participation. We offer all students the opportunity to develop fundamental skills that is working build character and embed values which includes character building, fairness, teamwork and respect. Rowhill School focuses on ensuring that students are physically literate which include; Social development building students’ social skills and resilience, cognitive development allowing students to think in different ways to help solve problems, physical development which allows students to build on their confidence and competence to takes take part in physical activity in both lessons and extracurricular opportunities. Students will also enhance their psychological make up allowing the students to feel better about themselves and understand how to behave better. Throughout Physical Education students will develop their understanding on a healthy lifestyle and how this will benefit them in everyday life. We also promote a positive wellbeing for all students. 

Aim

The PE curriculum at Rowhill School aims to ensure that all students engage in a tailored curriculum that supports the department and students with their physical and mental wellbeing. Through this we aim to ensure that all students are successful and confident where they are able to problem solve both individually and as a group. Students become responsible for their own actions. 

Implementation

Students at Rowhill will receive a minimum of two lessons of PE a week with either specialists class teachers or coaches. We cover a wide range of activities to develop students’ skills, knowledge and understanding. We provide a breadth of support within each lesson, for all students to access. Schemes of work and lessons plans have been created and tailored to stretch and challenge all students no matter their ability within PE. Staff have a wide range of specialist sports, including Football, Rugby, Cricket and Handball, staff are able to share good practice and continue their CPD. Students have the opportunity to progress in a block of six lessons, then continue progression from one year to another.  Along the curriculum a range of extra curriculum activities are provided, before and after school aiding students access to allow them to be physical active. Rowhill School are fortunate to offer amazing facilities including a sports hall with under floor heating, gymnasium, outdoor play ground and sports field. Physical Education is a subject that is supported by SLT and is encouraged by all staff.
